🧠 Fight-or-Flight 101
What it is:
When you’re stuck in survival mode (from trauma, stress, or toxic relationships), your nervous system becomes dysregulated. You may feel:
✔ Wired but exhausted
✔ Gaining weight despite eating less
✔ Sleeping poorly or not at all
✔ Easily triggered or anxious
What helps:
• Nutrient support (antioxidants help reduce internal stress and restore balance)
• Movement – just 30 minutes a day of walking, stretching, or dancing can:
• Regulate cortisol
• Boost feel-good endorphins
• Improve sleep and mood
• Nourishment – reducing inflammatory foods, eating protein-rich meals, and staying hydrated supports your nervous system and hormone balance
🧍♀️ My Personal Journey: Healing the Inside After a Toxic Chapter
There was a time when I was living in constant fight-or-flight — navigating the stress of a toxic relationship, losing sleep night after night, barely eating some days and overeating others, and watching my body and mind slowly fall apart. I was exhausted but wired, gaining weight even though I wasn’t doing anything differently, breaking out, feeling foggy, anxious, and just… off.
Eventually, I got out of that situation — physically. But emotionally, I couldn’t fully escape it. Because we have kids together, I still have to interact with this person, and the triggers didn’t just vanish overnight. The rollercoaster didn’t end; it just changed tracks.
I started learning about the toll long-term stress had taken on my body — not just emotionally, but on a cellular level: oxidative stress, inflammation, hormone imbalances, all silently stealing my energy and wellbeing. I didn’t want to rely on prescriptions unless absolutely necessary, so I began looking into more holistic support.

That’s when I came across a powerful antioxidant blend that included resveratrol, glutathione, acai, CoQ10, acerola, collagen, pomegranate, and mangosteen. I wasn’t expecting a miracle — I just wanted something to help me feel like me again.
And while this supplement didn’t remove the emotional weight or magically fix everything, it absolutely helped my body start to recover.
- My energy came back gradually — no more crashing in the afternoons.
- My sleep improved — deeper rest, less tossing and turning.
- My skin started to clear and feel less inflamed.
- My digestion and bloating noticeably improved.
- I stopped feeling so foggy and fatigued — my mental clarity returned.
- Even my stress responses started to feel less extreme.
I still have hard days. Emotional healing is never linear. But knowing I’m giving my body what it needs to repair from the inside out has changed the game for me. And when I’m more grounded physically, I’m more capable of handling the emotional ups and downs — especially when co-parenting with someone who’s still a source of stress.
This blend became a small, consistent act of self-respect. Not to fix everything — but to support my body so I can face it all stronger.
🌪️ Emotional + Oxidative Stress
- Toxic relationships activate chronic stress responses in the body — increased cortisol, inflammation, and impaired sleep.
- Oxidative stress results from an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in your body, which can damage cells and contribute to fatigue, mood issues, and chronic disease.

Nutrition Supports Brain Chemistry and Hormonal Balance

Its not just about taking a supplement there is more needed to help you on this healing journey. Toxic relationships can dysregulate your nervous system, pushing you into “fight or flight” mode. The right nutrition can help bring it back into balance.
How nutrition helps:
- Stabilizes blood sugar → prevents mood swings, irritability, and anxiety.
- Supports neurotransmitter production → foods rich in B vitamins, magnesium, omega-3s, and amino acids support serotonin, dopamine, and GABA (which help you feel calm and safe).
- Reduces inflammation → processed foods and sugar can heighten stress; anti-inflammatory foods (like leafy greens, berries, and fatty fish) can reduce this impact on the brain and gut.
Examples:
Complex carbs (like oats and sweet potatoes) help produce serotonin. Magnesium-rich foods (spinach, almonds) help regulate the parasympathetic nervous system. Omega-3s (salmon, flaxseed) reduce cortisol and anxiety.
Exercise Discharges Stress Hormones

Toxic stress often leaves the body in survival mode. Movement provides a natural release of stress.
How exercise helps:
- Lowers cortisol (the stress hormone). Increases endorphins (feel-good chemicals that ease emotional pain).
- Helps reset the vagus nerve, which calms the nervous system.
- Enhances sleep and improves mood, both of which are disrupted by toxic stress.
Best types for nervous system regulation:
- Walking in nature (calms and grounds the body).
- Yoga or pilates (especially focused on breath and slow movement).
- Strength training (builds resilience and confidence).
- Dancing or intuitive movement (releases trapped emotional energy).
Regulates the Fight/Flight/Freeze Response
Toxic relationships often leave your body stuck in a stress response. Nutrition and exercise help rewire this pattern by giving your nervous system what it needs to feel safe again.
Combined benefits:
- Increased mind-body connection.
- Better gut health (the gut is deeply linked to mood and nervous system function).
- Rebuilds a sense of control and routine—essential for healing after emotional chaos.
🧘♀️ Bonus Tip: Pair With Nervous System Tools
Use nutrition and exercise alongside:
- Breathwork or meditation Journaling or therapy Nervous system regulation practices (like vagus nerve activation, EFT tapping, or somatic healing)
